The Writer’s Playground Series – The Conjunction Game

Thank you for joining us in The Writer’s Playground series!

Here we run through writing games to spark imagination and sharpen your craft.

Today’s Exercise is

The Conjunction Game

  • Objective: To understand how sentence flow and logical connection are built.
  • How to Play: Given a simple prompt, writers must construct a paragraph where every sentence begins with a coordinating conjunction (“For,” “And,” “Nor,” “But,” “Or,” “Yet,” “So”). This constraint forces a focus on the relationship between sentences and creates a unique narrative rhythm.

Best for: Improving narrative flow, prose rhythm, and understanding syntax.
