Motif Weaving

  • Objective: To practice the use of recurring imagery to unify a narrative.
  • How to Play: Begin a collaborative “Round Robin” story. The first person must introduce a specific, recurring image or sound (a motif), such as “a dripping faucet” or “a red balloon.” Every subsequent writer who adds to the story must find a new and meaningful way to incorporate that same motif into their section.
  • Best for: Thematic cohesion, symbolism, and collaborative storytelling.

A Round Robin story is an excellent collaborative activity where one person starts a story, then the next continues where the first left off, and so on.
