Today’s Exercise is
Metaphor Mash-Up
- Objective: To practice creating original and powerful metaphors and similes.
- How to Play:
- Create two lists of random nouns on a whiteboard. List A should be concrete, tangible things (mountain, river, clock, spiderweb). List B should be abstract, intangible concepts (memory, ambi-tion, justice, loneliness).
- Each person must connect one word from List A to one word from List B to create a unique metaphor or simile (e.g., “Justice is a clock with missing hands.”).
- For an added challenge, give everyone 5 minutes to write a short paragraph or stanza that expands on the metaphor they created.
- Best for: Figurative language, creative thinking, deve-loping imagery.
